Ian in South Africa

Ian has recently returned from a trip to South Africa, where he attended “Pitso 2016”, a discipleship meeting of twenty leaders from around the world, hosted by Steve Oliver on his farm outside Clarens in the Free State.

He was then joined by Alan Bell in Cape Town where they were hosted by Sheldon Kidwell who leads the Bay Church. They had a morning with the Sozo foundation, learning how the church is reaching out into the township to raise expectations and prospects. They also saw some penguins which enthused one of them more than the other!

Returning to Clarens they both spoke at the Saturday morning regional leaders training session called “Fan into Flame”.  Alan preached on the Sunday, which had a great impact on many.

Before leaving they had time to visit the Nnete foundation which is providing assistance for local school children to complete their studies.  At the church prayer meeting they helped to start the foundations for the High School. There was also opportunity to deepen relationships with the leaders of the churches in Clarens and Bethlehem.

The Pitso was a truly amazing, challenging time, with many deep friendships made across the nations. South Africa remains a deeply divided country and the church is at the forefront in raising aspirations and training for the marginalised in society. There are many opportunities for us to stand alongside our brothers and sisters and support them in their work.
