Welcome to emmanuel church durham!
Join us to worship God and to hear from His Word.
Sunday mornings at Emmanuel Church Durham are lively and exciting and we want to welcome people from all ages and backgrounds to join us in encountering God and learning more about Him together.
We meet together at 10:30am.
On arrival at The Durham Centre, our stewards, in dark T-shirts, are there to welcome you.
There is the chance to pray, upstairs in the Conference Room, from 9:30am.
At the back of the foyer is our info@ point, where you can meet new people, ask questions and find out more.
We begin our meeting in the main auditorium at 10:30am, with a time of music, or worship – thanking and praising God. People are invited to contribute using microphones available at the front.
There will then be some notices and the children and young people will leave the main auditorium for their own groups. More information is available below.
We will then have a sermon – teaching from the Bible. This usually lasts about 30 minutes and is often followed by an opportunity to respond in some way.
We aim to break bread together once a month. In doing this, we celebrate Jesus’ death and Him rising from the dead. Find out more about what we believe. Non-alcoholic and gluten free options are available.
We usually break bread towards the end of our meetings. On these Sundays, our children’s and youth activities will finish early, so we can all break bread together.
People are invited to go to one of the tables, usually in the corners of the auditorium, to share in the bread and wine (non-alcoholic and gluten free alternatives available, please ask).
A number of times during the year, we have baptisms as part of our Sunday meeting, which are a great celebration of what God has done in a person’s life.
children and youth
For our children and youth, the following groups are available
Aged up to to three years
Creche provides for our youngest children. The Creche cares for them through until they move up to Livewires when they turn three. The Creche operates on a Sunday morning, at the same time as our other children’s groups – from 11:15am, and has a dedicated team running it each Sunday.
The Creche room can be found in The Durham Centre, off the downstairs corridor. This team is led by Jenny Collins and Becca Sheehan.
Aged three to school year one
Livewires takes children from age three until they go into school year one. The Livewires team provides a great environment and programme for the children to have fun, learn and grow. The sessions are packed full of games, songs, stories and crafts designed to engage and entertain as well as teach the children.
Livewires meets on Sundays in The Durham Centre’s rooms 1 and 2, off the downstairs corridor, from 11:15am to 12:15pm, when parents should collect their children.
School years one and two
Ignite Infants provides for infant aged children, in school years one and two. Run as a relaxed classroom environment, each session is packed full of activities, crafts, games, drama and music. We are seeking to give these kids the best experience of church and God that we can.
Ignite Infants meets on Sundays in The Durham Centre’s room 4, off the upstairs corridor, from 11:15am to 12:15pm, when parents should collect their children. The Ignite Infants team is lead by Ali Gray.
School years three to six
Ignite is aimed at children in school years three to six and runs an interactive magazine-style programme designed to engage the young people. One of the aims is for the group to be something that the children will choose to come to – that is ‘the best hour of the week’.
Ignite meets on Sundays in The Durham Centre’s Conference Room, upstairs, from 11:15am to 12:15pm, when parents should collect their children. The Ignite team is led by Gideon and Claire Copestake.
School years seven and eight
Wildfire is our group for young people in years seven and eight. The group tackles a range of subjects and looks at how to equip young people to discover and wrestle the Christian faith for themselves.
Wildfire meets on Sundays in Room 5, off the upstairs corridor. This session finishes along with the main Church service. Young people are free to leave the session once it finishes and do not need to be collected by parents/guardians.
School years nine and above
Inferno is our Sunday group for the older youths. The group focuses primarily on delving deeper into the Bible, discussing difficult questions the young people have and seeking to see how we respond to them as Christians.
Inferno meets on Sundays in the Board Room upstairs. This session finishes along with the main Church service. Young people are free to leave the session once it finishes and do not need to be collected by parents/guardians.
The Inferno Team is led by Helen Edwards.
On the last Sunday of each month, our young people take part in Alternative Church, with worship and teaching for the duration of the regular church service. Here are a few pictures.
We want our church to be a welcoming environment where people of all ages and backgrounds can feel and be safe. In order to ensure this, photography or recording of meetings is not permitted without prior consent. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
