Sundays 9th, 16th & 23rd October 2011 12.00noon-12.30pm
Welcome to Emmanuel Church!
Come and join us after the morning service to hear from the leaders of the church what the Student Work at church is all about, and ask your own questions. There are loads of things to get involved in so come along and find out more!
Venue: The Durham Centre Time: 7.30pm (7.00pm for drinks!)
From Sunday 9th October till the end of term (apart from 6th November when there will be a training day on Missional Communities – see Special Events section).
At Emmanuel Church we believe we are God’s people together on a mission. Jesus calls us to be his disciples and to be disciples who make more disciples as he builds his church. He calls us to grow in our faith and at the same time step out in faith into the communities that are around us to share the hope that he brings, reach out to the poor and needy and spread God’s glory wherever we are. Sunday evenings are all about discipleship and mission. Come along for practical challenge and training, teaching, prayer and creative thinking about how we can reach out to those in our communities who do not know Jesus.
Each Sunday from the 9th of October 2011 there will a free lunch available after the morning service at 1.00pm, before the bus leaves at 2.00pm. A great chance to gather together with other people from church to eat, talk and hear news about what is happening in Emmanuel. Occasionally there will be student family lunches, when you will get the chance to have lunch at the home of a family from the church. Don’t wind the kids up too much…
TNT is our exciting and “explosive” student prayer meeting, and is not only a chance to praise God in the middle of our busy days, but an opportunity to get together for some good banter! TNT is every Tuesday ‘n’ Thursday (catchy isn’t it?), 1pm at the Main Library.
Student Alpha runs over 7 weeks and gives students an opportunity to explore the meaning of life. Every session kicks off with a free meal and a DVD, followed by discussion in groups where no question is off-limits. For more information visit our Student Alpha page.
Church meetings happen once a month, on a Wednesday evening at 7.30pm. We gather the whole church together to think about what God’s been doing in the church, and to look at what’s coming next.
Being in a small group gives you the chance to step out of the student bubble, and get to know people in a more relaxed environment. We chat about pretty much everything, and usually pray together. If you’re not in one, you’re missing out!
Do just what they say on the tin! Baptisms are held regularly throughout the year, and they always promise to be a great celebration with some very wet (but very happy) people.
A little bit different to normal Sundays, Hope Sundays are great to bring your friends along to. There’s always a guest speaker invited for the occasion, and they offer a great opportunity for those who are curious about what church is all about.
University often means that we don’t get time in a family very often, so about once a month families in the church adopt a few students for the afternoon. We’re fed, watered and generally entertained by a family, who often open up great new friendships.
The Ark is an opportunity for students to explore life and God together while sailing along the river in Durham! We meet on the Prince Bishop in the Summer term to go on a voyage of discovery together. For more information about this exciting event visit The Ark page.
